Kapibara-san is a character created by Banpresto. At the beginning you could only get a Kapibara-san from toy crane vending machines. But people wanted it so much that they started selling it everywhere, different sizes, different colors, T-shirts, books and all kinds of merchandising. It is interesting how they managed to create a phenomenon just from a boring and simple animal (A capybara). The point is that it is really “kawai” (cute), and Japanese love “kawai” stuff. I like it!

It may be the first horiontally Super Deformed character. I mean, usual SD charas have a big head… on their shoulders.
heh, kinda similar to dango family.
i want one so badly but should i spend 5000yen on one in a store or try 50 times at a crane game?!?!?! if i am going to get one i want the big one:)
i would buy it if banpresto made a doll out of their SRW line

Wow they are really looking. I can see those eyes staring at me and telling me to bring them home.
in my eyes…thats on ugly plush -_-
Spent $10 on a crane game in Shibuya trying to get one, with more than one of my attempts misfiring due to a wonky control setup. Save yourself the aggravation and spend the 5000 Yen.
They are numerous here in Brazil. They are lazy and not agressive. you can find them in urban parks.
my girlfriend picked up one of the toys in Japan, but they were sold out of the books =(
does anyone know how i could purchase one of the books online?
thanks heaps
Kapibara is so cute! 😀 Oh well, only those who appreciate its simplicity would think it’s cute. Those who think otherwise are missing out!
im looking for a batt operated walking kapi. u guys nioe where to get it?
my ex spend 9000yen just to buy me one and i still love my kapibara,.i sometimes used it as pillow,.
Our cat just loves the mini kapibaras from the game machines. My kids have to visit the local game centre on a regular basis to keep her stocked up on them, since she is always losing them under the washing machine or wherever. We tried other similar tiny toys but it is kapibara or nothing.
[…] is nothing I can do about it. Capybara are basically one big nose. If you’ve ever seen a Kapibara-san, you’ll know the Japanese got that […]
wow, your post is excellent! the pictures make the Kapi look so cute! I own two big ones and many tiny ones bought from my travels… they’re so too cute!!!
