Taito Station

In Europe almost all arcade stores disappeared at end of the 90s, as video game consoles became as powerful or even more than arcade machines, and started to be affordable to everybody. In Japan the arcades are not in their heyday but they are still quite alive; they are known here as game centers. One of the companies that owns a lot of game centers in Tokyo is Taito (taken over by Square Enix in 2005). If you come to Japan, even if you’re not interested in video games, don’t lose the opportunity to visit one of them; it’s worth it just to see the different kinds of machines and the general atmosphere:

Pokémon cars

My brother has sent me this Pokémon itasha pictures. Itasha is a word used to refer to decorated cars with manga, anime or video game motifs. It’s something that has become quite popular in some otaku circles of certain age that have enough money to afford it.

Level 5 and Studio Ghibli RPG

One of the most anticipated video games in Japan this year is the RPG “Ni no kuni” (二ノ国) that will be released for Nintendo DS and PlayStation 3 next December. The game is being jointly developed by Studio Ghibli (one of the best animation studios in the world) and Level 5 (one of the best RPG developers in the world). If they coordinate each other well we can expect a great game. The music will be composed by Joe Hisaishi, the character design and animation will be done by Studio Ghibli and the gameplay and game mechanics developed by Level 5 (I guess it will be similar to Dragon Quest IX). The PlayStation 3 version will make use of the new controller Move, that was showcased at the last E3.
