This weekend I joined an Otaku demonstration, probably the first Otaku demo ever. It was in Akihabara were around 1.000 otakus joined the march against otaku discrimination. They claimed respect from traditional media that sometimes treats otakus people in general as “criminals” and also the “liberation of Akihabara and otaku emancipation”. Lately many big department stores are conquering Akihabara, little shops are disappearing, and with them the “authentic Akihabara spirit” is also being destroyed.

We already know Dannychoo because he likes to wear his Stormtrooper armor and walk around Tokyo. Dannychoo just got an impressive Darth Vader armor!!!.

I had the otaku-honor to be the official photographer during one of the first “long distance trooping sessions” around Tokyo’s streets and trains. It was pretty difficult to take pictures of a big black thing walking by dark streets, I learned many ways to trick my camera. Had lots of fun seeing tired Japanese people with boring faces going home after work changing to a surprise/smiley face when noticing they were walking next to a Darth Vader. Look at people generally ignoring Darth Vader presence but when someone starts to take one picture everyone looses his shyness and joins the Vader photography session.

We found someone with a light saber, fight!
