Miscellanea of drinks

It still amazes me the amount of different weird drinks that are sold in vending machines on the streets in Japan. It’s also astounding the rate at what new drinks appear and disappear on the market; it seems like the competition is really stiff. For example, Pepsi, in a desperate movement released the Cucumber Pepsi to the market, a truly legendary drink.

Which one of these drinks would you buy?

Chocolate-flavored soda by Suntory

Japan is home to the weirdest drinks in the world, like for example the Pepsi Cucumber. A brand new chocolate-flavored soda has been recently launched to the market by Suntory. Today before coming to work I stopped by at the conbini (abbreviation of “Convenience Store”) and bought a bottle of Suntory’s newest product called Sparkling Chocolate.

Chocolate-flavored soda

The thing that disturbs me the most is that it has almost no bubbles and looks like still mineral water, but when you drink it… Here is an early morning video (in Spanish), where I try it, make some comments (it’s yellowish, it smells like chocolate…) and arrive to the final conclusion that… it tastes like chocolate 🙂

Beer produced in space

Sapporo has put on sale 250 six-packs of beer produced in space. The six-packs, holding 330-ml bottles, are available at a price of ¥10,000 each (around 75 euros, 110 dollars). What makes the beer special is that the original barley seeds were stored for five months in the International Space Station. It is the first time “Space beer” is produced. Sapporo Breweries Ltd. promises that the money earned from the sale of the beer will be destined to promote scientific education in Japan.
