Animate in Ikebukuro is one of the largest manga, anime and otaku products stores in Tokyo. A lot of manga and video game shops have emerged around Animate that before were located in Akihabara. Many people say that the “authentic” otaku spirit of Akihabara is slowly dying out and is moving to neighborhoods like Ikebukuro or Nakano.

From the side the building looks like a milk carton!
Hector,
FYI, that Animate in Ikebukuro is one of the oldest and first of their branches. I think it might be the “honten” actually. It used to be just a very small shop on the first floor and located in another building nearby. When I came to Tokyo in 1985 that was the first place I headed for. At that time there was only two others, another in Kichijoji and in Yokohama.
